Top 5 reasons why Camp No Limits changed Jordan's life

little-arm-camp-no-limitsI’m not exaggerating when I say Camp No Limits changed Jordan’s life. She was only three and a half when we attended camp for the first time. Cameron and I came along and almost instantly, my hard-headed girl was learning how to put her hard-headedness into good use. She learned the importance of being strong and how there are other kids just like her. I’m not kidding when I say she asked when she could go back to camp almost every day for a whole year until the next camp.

Here’s some of the most important lessons she’s learned from camp through the years:

1. Self-reliance
From the start, Jordan has felt free to take charge of herself during camp. She’s not afraid to sit with friends or carry her own food tray. She’s a bit stubborn when it comes to asking for help. But after she tries a lot, she’ll ask someone. I think that’s a special kind of self-reliance… Being able to be comfortable to ask for help but always trying first.

I knew Jordan would figure out zippers, snaps, buttons and shoe tying, but she has mentors who helped guide her. Now, she is able to help teach other kids (and adults) at camp how she gets it done. I remember many years ago when I watched a camper explain how she pulled her hair into a pony tail and I couldn’t imagine Jordan doing the same thing… And as with everything, Jordan proved me wrong. She’s the pony tail and braiding queen.

3. Confidence to be a mentor
Everything Jordan has learned about being a mentor to younger limb different kids, she learned at Camp No Limits. The older kids who attend camp are incredible and so supportive. I’m honored they’ve helped guide Jordan into a confident and able teacher.

Camp No Limits taught Jordan the importance of health and strength. It’s why she’s so committed to weekly CrossFit and loves so many sports. Camp taught Jordan early on to try everything and anything. And in the last couple of years, she’s extended her sports love into Nubability Athletics camps as well.

5. Knowing she’s never alone
Jordan has grown up knowing she has a limb difference community all across the country. Thanks to Born Just Right, we have limb difference friends from around the world. Jordan has never worried about being alone in her one-handed world. Camp No Limits was the first consistent place in her world where she always knows she has friends who understand. That’s life changing for her. It’s life changing for our family. None of us are alone.

Do you want to help change another child’s life? You can by helping donate to Jordan’s Camp No Limits fundraiser. Every $500 we raise will send another kid to camp in 2016. It’s a special way to celebrate Jordan’s birthday and today’s big Giving Tuesday celebration online.

Thanks so much to all of you who have given over the years. It means a lot to us!
