A Giving Birthday Celebration
Jordan is almost a month into being eight-years-old but that doesn’t mean we’re totally done celebrating her birthday. Jordan has not held very many birthday parties since she’s had the chance to party it up every other year at Disney World. (We really, really like it there. And I promise to write details about our most recent trip very soon.) But this year is a non-Disney birthday year. So Jordan had a great idea for a party we’ve never attended before: An art party.
Art parties seem to happen all the time with my friends. They all meet in a big room, drink wine and enjoy working on painting the same image with the help of a leader. Well, there’s an opportunity for kids to do the same thing. I’ve kind of avoided this kind of experience because I’m so type-A, art projects stress me out. I never feel like I can do it well enough. But Jordan is SO excited to paint with her friends.
Beyond a different party setting, Jordan also made a big decision. Instead of asking for gifts, she is asking her party attendees to donate to Camp No Limits. In the last week or so, we’ve raised enough for eight kids to attend camp. There was an amazing and unexpected donation from a family with a seven-month-old future camper. Thanks to them and the kind donations of others, we’re now $400 away from sending a ninth kid to camp. (WOW) We have raised more than $4,100! Every little donation makes a difference. I don’t know if I could have ever passed up the chance for presents when I was a kid. I’m incredibly proud of Jordan. She loves camp so much.
Plus, she gets to paint. Each kid will leave the party with their own art work. Everyone wins AND gets to join in on a fun party. I can’t wait!
