A new level of softball
Game on! Jordan’s softball season kicked off last night and she was very excited. She has the new baseball shoes, the cool pair of shorts, new hat, shirt and a batting glove. Even better? She is focused to do her very best. Her team launched into their first year of machine pitch softball and it comes with more rules and expectations. It’s pretty exciting.
In her first game, Jordan made it to first base during her first at-bat but got tagged out on second. She didn’t make it back to the base after that, but it didn’t seem to bother her other than that one time a ball bounced off her bat and into her shin. On defense, Jordan was on first base during the entire game. I’ve always felt a little stressed about having a kid on first. It’s such an important position. And Jordan played with hunger and focus and smiles. She almost snagged a grounder and got to first base in time to tag out a player, but she dropped the ball. It was SUCH AN AWESOME almost play. Instead of getting upset with herself, she smiled. Her coach let her know he was proud and she smiled. I love how she didn’t let a little mistake put her down, she learned from it. Her whole team learned a lot. Oh – and Jordan did tag out a player on first during the game. That was pretty great. Her team didn’t win, but that didn’t seem to upset the kids. I know they all had a good time.
This is certainly a new level of baseball. During coach pitch, Jordan made it onto first base at every at bat. If she got out, she’d get teary. So far this year, there’s just a lot of hunger to try hard and have fun. I’m super proud and can’t wait to watch another game tonight.
Watching her play makes me even more excited about her chance to learn from the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team in June. Jordan’s spark of excitement is shining in her eye when she plays this sport. I can’t wait to see how much she learns leading up to camp.
