Active, healthy and tired

First I want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of support after my post a couple of days ago. Parenting a child with a limb difference is a little different, but I think every kid has wondered if they are the kid their parent wanted. I know I wouldn’t want either of my kids any differently… Even though they are a lot of work!

You know what is so strange about this school year? You build up so much energy to get it up and running in a positive way. But at some point, you realize the gears that were put in motion are productive and wonderful and… EXHAUSTING.

We’re deep enough into the school year that I think we’re in a pattern. Piano, soccer, guitar, dance and home football games (or some type of weekend activity), repeat. We’ve had some really cool extras:

I had a chance to meet a group of Missouri family farmers and learn about what it really takes to farm. I’ll be honest, it has me thinking a little differently at what food I purchase and what the labels say. I was already pretty conscious about non-antibiotic meats and it’s interesting to hear the perspective of why farmers use them. (Mainly we were told antibiotics are used when an animal is ill and that stresses them out.. and stress means losing weight. Losing weight means less milk or meat. It totally makes sense… I still choose to purchase non-antibiotic meat and milk. It makes sense why that food is more expensive. I’ll take the banking hit.) After the lessons, I got to enjoy a Cardinals game and I love watching a good baseball game.

The extra play dates and music shows and Disney on Ice along with birthday parties and Finding Nemo parties really added another level of busy. This past weekend was supposed to be relaxing and yet our Sunday turned out to be two parties with a soccer game in the middle. (Although Cam and I used the game time to go out for a run. You have to fit it all in somehow!)

So that’s probably why we’re tired.

We have a home football game next weekend and that means hours of enjoying friends and food that’s followed by a game. It’s really a wonderful problem to have.

You’re making me miss living in St. Louis! I was there for about 10 years and the last few I got very much into the food community. There are so many great resources in the greater St. Louis area, and great places to get good, clean food.

Rachel, the food culture of St. Louis is pretty wonderful. I wish we lived a bit closer so we could be there even more often. I’d say we visit on average once every other month. (I hit STL three times in September!)
