Growing a friendship with pencil and paper
When Jordan came home from her week out of town, we had our hugs and our smiles and then Jordan went straight to the mailbox. She loves being the person who grabs the mail (who doesn’t, really). In a rare moment… She actually had a letter that was addressed to her! A penpal letter!
This is an idea that was pitched by my friend and Chicagonista, MJ Tam. Her daughter and Jordan are going to try to trade letters back and forth at least for the next few weeks. The original thought was we wanted an excuse to have the girls work on their writing skills during summer break so they’re ready for the school year. But my guess is Jordan will want to keep it going. She loves letters.
After MJ and I shared photos of our happy girls with their letters, a number of other moms mentioned how they’d love to have their kids jump into the pen pal experience. So here’s my idea. If you would like your child to meet a pen pal, fill out this form below and I’ll help match you. I’ll base it on your child’s age. It would be really cool to see if this works!
Love this. love love love! We did something similar with our Daisy troop last year, and my daughter had a blast.
Cool! I can’t tell you how a simple letter lights up Jordan’s world. It’s great.
Hey Jenn, when will we have pen pals, or maybe I should ask if you received my submission for Sammy? Are the pen pals limb different, or can anyone participate? We can post on Sammy’s Friends group as well if you need more participants!
Hi Chantel! I was working on getting another wave of kids so I have enough families to connect. I’ll check the list and try to make another group of pen pals!
