Holiday time with the family
I can’t say any person in our family was ready to get back to the normal swing of things this morning… There’s something awesome about a long unscheduled holiday weekend. Sure, Jordan’s parents had to work a bit this past holiday, but that didn’t stop all of us from having fun and bringing the holidays into our house.
Over the holidays, Jordan’s grandparents from Florida had a chance to spend a couple of days with us to celebrate Thanksgiving. I know we don’t get to see each other enough, but it was great for the kids to spend time with them. Plus, we got to visit one of our favorite local holiday decorations. It’s called the Magic Tree… since it has a magical amount of lights on every limb. It’s really beautiful.
Since the kids were little, we used a fake tree to cut down on the mess and danger. I guess we decided to change things up this time around and get a real tree. The temperatures were super cold. so we chose to venture out and pick out a pre-cut Frasier. It’s smaller than our old fake tree… but it smells and looks wonderful. The kids had a great time picking it out. At some point, Jordan surrounded herself with trees… and thought that was really fun.
Once we got the tree into the house (complete with a kid-assisted trimming of the tree’s trunk), the kids got a chance to break out the ornament boxes full of memories. Both of them have claimed ownership of a handful of ornaments… many with their name or picture on them. Others are trinkets and memories of many vacations from years past. The tree really is a collection of our memories and smiles. Jordan’s favorite ornaments are ones she made or have pictures of when she was a “little girl.” She’s really big now, ya know?
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and feels in the spirit for the holidays ahead. In that spirit, I have created our latest online holiday card website. It has a downloadable card and stories from our past year. If you’ve read this blog in the past year, you’ll probably know many of the stories mentioned there. But you do have a chance to leave a holiday message with us. We really do appreciate the awesome connections we’ve built through this site and other spots online. You are why we keep telling stories and meeting up with so many people.
Happy holidays and thanks!
