In times of disaster
I work in a newsroom and I am swamped by the horrific information I am learning in the aftermath of a terrible tornado that ripped through Joplin, Missouri. It’s four hours away from where I live and my newsroom is trying to keep up with the search and rescue efforts along with relief efforts for the survivors.
I was working furiously last night while the kids did not really notice what was going on. I had to stop and appreciate the amazing life I have and how lucky we are to be safe. I let Cameron spend a little time watching the coverage on the Weather Channel while Randy and I managed our newsroom and online content. I wanted him to know that tornados are incredibly dangerous and all of those tonado drills are important. When we say move to the basement, we mean it.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Joplin. My local United Way (Heart of Missouri United Way) is collecting monetary donations – 100% will go towards relief efforts in Joplin. It’s hard to watch, but I feel like I’m able to help a little bit. Hopefully you can help as well. My newsroom is holding a telethon this Thursday at 7pm. I’ll probably Livestream it here to help share the support.
