Rockin' to Springsteen (aka Jordan's First E-Street Concert)

Jordan’s dad is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. His first show was in 1984… Since then, he’s seen The Boss 40+ times. It only seems fitting for our kids to experience a Springsteen show during their youth. Cameron’s first show was when he was six years old… So we decided to let six-year-old Jordan and 10 year old Cameron experience another show this past weekend. Jordan’s first Springsteen experience was in utero. She got to jam out to an acoustic show in my belly in 2005 at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. Cam’s first show was at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

This time we traveled to Kansas City to see Springsteen and the E Street band at the Sprint Center. It’s in the city’s Power and Light District. I haven’t spent a ton of time in the area and it seemed really nice. I look forward to checking it out some time without kidlets in tow.

The show started after bed time and we had tried to get the kids to sleep in the morning before… But I worried Jordan wouldn’t have the energy to enjoy the show. Plus, shoving ear plugs into her tiny ears were kind of tricky and not super comfortable.

But the good news? She jammed out. Miss Jordan boogied and yelled and cheered and had a great time. She started to fade near the end of the show. Thanks to an energized encore, Jordan jumped back into action and had a great time. I seem to recall carrying out an exhausted and sound asleep Cameron four years ago after his first Bruce show. But Jordan rallied, got her first concert poster, and crashed in the car as we drove home.

Jordan’s favorite part about the show: She says it was having the chance to dance with me to the music. I have to agree with her. That was a lot of fun.
