Speaking and Sharing Camp No Limits

Months ago, we were invited to a local Kiwanis Club meeting to share the story of Born Just Right and all the cool things we do in the limb difference community and beyond. I didn’t realize how crazy our life would be, but it is so fabulous to have a chance to see Jordan develop as a speaker.

We had a chance to talk a the local club’s annual picnic, so it was relaxed and outside. That made it possible for Jordan to share Project Unicorn without causing a sparkle mess indoors. We told the story of Born Just Right – why I started it and how Jordan is helping be a more active participant in advocating for herself and kids. We shared how we are thousands of dollars behind in our fundraising for Camp No Limits. But we explained how the camp changed our lives for the better. A family services program, Boone County Family Resources, pays for Jordan and me to attend camp each year. Thanks to that support, we raise money so other families can attend camp.

While we spoke, the club members passed around a cup when we weren’t looking. Each person found cash in their pockets and helped raise an additional $250 for camp! That pays for half of the cost of sending a person to camp. All from finding cash in wallets and pockets. I am so touched by the kindness of our community.

Jordan and I head off to Camp No Limits on Sunday and for the first time, we won’t have reached our fundraising goal. It’s been a crazy year and it just didn’t feel right to overwhelm you with stories of American Girl dolls and 3D sparkle shooting AND ask for money. But if you have ever thought about giving to camp, it would be amazing. There are kids still trying to raise money to attend camp this upcoming week. Camp never turns families away because they can’t afford it. That’s why fundraising is so important! Thanks to you and the many people (including the Columbia Kiwanis Club) who have given to our favorite, special camp.
