The Power of CrossFit

Jordan discovered CrossFit Kids during last summer’s Nubability Athletics camp. I’d heard of it before. I’d watched amazing athletes complete the unthinkable on social media. After Jordan spent time working with Nubability coach, Dave Newkirk, she told me she wanted to get serious.

So Jordan started weekly workouts at a gym in our area that had invited her a number of times, CrossFit Fringe. One of the CrossFit Kids coaches is a friend and I already knew a number of people who worked out there. At the very end of December, Jordan took the workouts up a notch and started attending two CrossFit Kids workouts a week. In the last few weeks, We’ve started seeing some real results. Jordan is learning amazing form. She’s pushing herself to new weight challenges. She’s getting stronger. I’m incredibly proud of her effort.

I feel extra lucky because we’ve had a chance to connect with some fabulous athletes through I Am Adaptive. Just by sharing photos and videos of Jordan’s workouts and adding the #iamadaptive hashtag on Instagram, we continue to meet new adults learning one-handed exercise. I’ve been able to brainstorm and share tips to Jordan that way. It’s a big reason why she’s really figuring out using her one-handed jump rope.

I am also lucky to have a great group of CrossFit Kids coaches who are working really hard to help Jordan learn healthy and safe ways to adapt exercises with one hand. Even when it’s hard, she tries and tries until she figures it out. I hope she keeps that attitude in everything she does!
