Trying to get creative
Over the weekend the whole family took Jordan to her soccer class. It’s focused on soccer skills and they don’t actually play games yet. She’s a good listener and I’m very proud to watch her in the big class as she kicks and stops and listens. This week I decided we should give her arms a try during play. It offers a bit more balance while she runs and it helps during the portions of the class where the kids learn how to throw the ball or drop kick it. I decided to try it out with her elbow helper arm. It is permanently attached her to hook “open and close” hand… but since it has an elbow, I thought it might be helpful.
Well… Elbow arm wasn’t the best choice. Every time Jordan would life her arm up, the hand would open. It wasn’t too much of a problem, but it wasn’t that helpful. I think next week we’re going to try her straight-arm helper with her old bouncy-hand. It’s just a little hand that looks like a hand. It might have a little traction when you hold a ball. We’ll see how it goes. I haven’t fully decided if a helper arm is that helpful without an elbow. But I might change my opinion… If Jordan benefits from it.
(BTW – a Facebook fan shared there’s a sports mitt hand out there. If anyone sees a link or a photo, I’d love to see it. UPDATE: She did share a link! Check this out!)
Carly has one, I’ll see if I can get her to do a pic with her Blackberry and send it to you.
