My Superhero is Wearing a Wedding Gown for Halloween

I see the images. A Mighty Girl has an entire section devoted to empowering girls to dress up in strong and sometimes gender neutral costumes. I see the awesome outfits with girls wearing superhero dresses. Before I was a mom to a girl, I swore my daughter wouldn’t like pink. Heck, I named Jordan a gender-neutral name so she could be the girl she wanted to be.

Well.

My girl has chosen to be a girly girl. She’s so much more girly than I am. And I’m letting her run with it.

I’m sorry I’m not sorry.

Jordan is already a superhero in my eyes. She has an incredibly positive attitude in life and in everything she does. So dang it, if my kid wants to wear a Disney wedding dress for Halloween. She’s going to wear a Disney wedding dress for Halloween. And she is proudly wearing it today.

Halloween is always a super exciting event for our household. The kids prepare their outfits for months. This year, Jordan even had her hair cut to match her outfit. She’s dressing up as Rapunzel at the end of the movie, Tangled. You know, the wedding scene after her hair was cut off. So Jordan’s hair is almost the right length and color.

Jordan tried on the full outfit for the first time yesterday and she’s super excited to see it all come together. Her look includes flowers and even a wedding ring. Jordan is adamant she will hold those flowers during trick or treating and will carry her candy bag with her little arm. I offered to tape the flowers to her bag but she will not hear it. The entire outfit is going to be worn her way.

So, Jordan is wearing the type of outfit that would have made me cringe eight years ago when I was pregnant. But she’s so darn happy. And I can’t wait to see her smile all night as she goes trick or treating.

Don’t forget, the kids and I are running in a 5K next week to raise money for Camp No Limits. We’d love your support. Just visit our fundraising website! Thanks for your consideration in supporting a really special limb difference camp.

Love this! Empowering girls comes from listening to them and loving them JUST the way they are.

Much to my surprise, I also ended up with a girly girl. Somehow, she knew how to dress, how to apply makeup (perfectly) and all the rest. I’ve loved watching her every moment up to and including her recent wedding where she finally got to her fairy princess wedding gown — for real! I still don’t know how to apply makeup …

Thank you, Carolyn! I still don’t know this makeup thing either.

I LOVE her costume! And as a fellow empowered girly girl, I can assure you there is nothing wrong with being both a Disney princess and a superhero. 🙂
