"Why does everyone know Jordan?"
Cameron asked that question yesterday after the fourth lifeguard at the pool said hi to Jordan. He was feeling kind of left out. So I let him guess what feature of Jordan makes her unforgettable… He had to pause for a moment (and I love that he had to think about it for a bit). Then he realized: “Oh yeah! Her arm!”
Yup. Her arm. It’s the first thing you may notice but Jordan is obviously not her arm. She is who she is. The arm lets you remember, but her personality helps you never forget.
She’s having a blast at the pool and even though she’s around a lot of new kids who don’t know her, she’s handling the questions very well. She only hides her arm when really young kids won’t stop asking or staring. Most kids at the pool really can move past it once they ask a question.
But poor Cam. He’s learning it will take a little more to be memorable at the pool. He was unforgettable at school this year – for not always the best reasons. But I’m sure he’ll find his way beyond being “Jordan’s big brother.”
I love how you worded that – that her arm makes her easy to remember and her personality makes her impossible to forget.
As the mom of a 2 year old who was born without her left hand, I really enjoy reading your stories. You have helped me to realize that my little one will live a perfectly normal life.
I’m so glad Jac!
I love how you worded that too! I’ve never met Jordan, but I can tell she has such an awesome personality just through her pictures and your stories.
The facebook page is great by the way 🙂
Thanks! I’m enjoying the extra fun we’re having on Facebook. Who knew expanding this blog to that space would be so great!
Jen, you’re so good at this.
I loved this post! Made me smile from ear to ear. You might remind Cameron that you know how he feels, you are no longer Jen, you are “Jordan’s mom”. At least that’s the way it happens in my world…err…excuse me…Ashlyn’s World. Me – “Hi, I’m Trisha.” Other person – “Oh, you’re Ashlyn’s mom.” Enough said. *smile* Again, great post!!
